José Manuel Sordo M. is a senior attorney at CAYPE Abogados, with significant experience in mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, and real estate law. He has led and advised on M&A transactions totaling over US$1 billion across sectors including energy, retail, healthcare, technology, food, and manufacturing. His recent work includes the sale of one of Latin America’s largest payment solutions startups and the acquisition of a leading leather manufacturer in Mexico.

José Manuel also oversees the firm’s work in the Hospitality & Leisure sector, advising developers, operators, and investors on the structuring, financing, and development of hotels, resorts, branded residences, vacation clubs, and mixed-use projects across Mexico and Latin America. His counsel spans complex joint ventures, management agreements, fractional ownership structures, and tourism-focused real estate assets such as marinas, golf courses, and destination communities.

His broader practice focuses on cross-border M&A and private equity transactions, advising funds, startups, and corporate clients on investment structuring, corporate governance, and sustainable value creation across Mexico, the U.S., Latin America, and Europe. In the venture capital space, he regularly advises early- and growth-stage companies on corporate formation, governance, financing rounds (including Series Seed, Series A, and Series B), and exit strategies. He has also represented both borrowers and lenders in secured and unsecured debt financings.

Beyond his transactional work, José Manuel serves as a board member and strategic advisor to startups and multinational companies in fintech, insurance, retail, human capital, and real estate. He is also an active mentor in entrepreneurship programs across the region.

Education

José Manuel earned his law degree from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México in 2015. He also completed postgraduate programs at Charles University in Prague and at Universidad Iberoamericana, with a focus on comparative and international legal systems
